Science, Education and Development in Unstable and Extraordinary Conditions

16–20 March 2027 · Online with an on-site plenary in Maribor, Slovenia

The 15th Annual Conference of Europe’s Sciences and Arts Leaders and Scholars is organised by Alma Mater Europaea University in coorganisation with the European Academy of Sciences and Arts (EASA) and the World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS).

We invite scholars, researchers, thought leaders, public intellectuals, practitioners, and postgraduate students to submit original research, case studies, panel proposals, and academic insights for presentation at the 15th annual “It’s About People” conference, taking place from 16 to 20 March 2027.

This distinguished interdisciplinary event brings together Europe’s leading voices in science, the arts, and public discourse to confront the urgent challenges of our era, while placing people, and their search for purpose and meaning, at the center of academic inquiry.

Main Theme and Objectives

In the era marked by geopolitical tensions, climate emergencies, technological disruptions, demographic shifts, economic volatility, war and other crises, universities are called upon to prepare young generations to address these challenges. Thus, the 2027 conference explores how science, education, and sustainable development can thrive amid instability and extraordinary conditions, utilising available academic capacities to produce positive social impact and relevant, science-based solutions. The theme emphasizes resilience, adaptability, innovation, and ethical stewardship to build robust systems that support human dignity, societal cohesion, global peace and long-term progress.

The conference sets out three objectives:

• To share knowledge, experience and research among academic peers at an international level;
• To communicate state-of-the-art scholarship to the general and academic public;
• To include scholars and students in solving contemporary issues.

A particular focus will be placed on:

• The role of science, innovation and education in fostering resilience and critical thinking during crises;
• Strategies for sustainable development in unstable political, economic, and environmental contexts;
• The contribution of academic communities to recovery, reconstruction, and future preparedness;
• Ethical, cultural, and technological dimensions of successfully navigating uncertainty and extraordinary challenges.

Scholars are encouraged to consider both disciplinary depth and cross-sectoral collaboration, including the arts, ethics, humanities, and public engagement.
