Professor Wei Yang from Zhejiang University is a distinguished neurobiologist who has been researching the connection between neuroscience, biomechanics, and rehabilitation for decades. As a professor at the Zhejiang University School of Medicine and a researcher at the university’s First Affiliated Hospital, he has contributed to numerous groundbreaking discoveries in neurorehabilitation.
His academic journey, which includes visiting research positions at the University of California, Davis, and the University of Leeds, has provided him with a broad spectrum of expertise that he applies in developing innovative treatment methods.
At the conference It’s About People 2025, he will present research focused on functional electrical stimulation (FES) combined with exoskeleton-assisted rehabilitation, where he has developed a muscle fatigue detection system through human-robot interaction analysis. His work confirms that FES enhances gait rehabilitation but gradually loses effectiveness over time, opening new avenues for optimizing therapy.
In addition, he has studied the effects of prolonged static stretching (PSS) in patients with limited mobility due to injury or disease. His findings show that PSS improves the range of motion, reduces spasticity, and enhances the functional capacity of affected limbs, with more prolonged and more intensive interventions yielding the best results.
He has received multiple prestigious awards for his achievements, including recognition as an Innovative Talent in Healthcare in Zhejiang Province and various honors for scientific excellence and young researchers. Through his research, which integrates machine learning, biomechanical analysis, and clinical trials, he significantly advances more effective rehabilitation methods and a deeper understanding of the interactions between neurological processes and movement.
