The Peace Offensive is a proactive, dialogue-driven peacebuilding effort led by the academic community. In a world of rising polarization and violence, academia plays a crucial role in conflict prevention, peace education, and fostering cross-cultural understanding.
The World Academy of Art and Science (WAAS) and the European Academy of Science and Art (EASA) launched the Global Peace Offensive, built on three pillars:
Strategic de-escalation – Localized initiatives using cultural, scientific, economic, and educational diplomacy to drive incremental, sustainable solutions.
Trust-building – Prioritizing stakeholder voices, cultural exchange, and partnerships for lasting peace and human security.
Enhanced dialogue – Leveraging diplomacy, education, and technology (including AI and social networks) to influence political decisions and peace efforts.
“The academic community is responsible for anticipating change, fostering dialogue, and developing innovative solutions for peace. We must act now to build a more just and secure world,” says Donato Kiniger-Passigli, Vice-president of WAAS.
Academia can drive knowledge-based solutions by addressing the root causes of conflict, inequality grievances, poverty, and underdevelopment. Now is the time for a global, concerted peace initiative.
