The 2022 Resolution

The Programme Committee of the 10th international scientific conference IT’S ABOUT PEOPLE: Embracing Digital Transformation for a Sustainable and Ethical Future organised organised by AMEU and EASA between 11 – 18 March 2022, held under the auspices of the President of Republic Slovenia, and with the active participation of the European Commissioners Dubravka Šuica and Maroš Šefčovič, Universities, and other academic and public institutions from more than thirty countries, proclaims the following final memorandum:

Digital transformation is a new development process accelerating implementation in various areas of social life and is a crucial development challenge, especially regarding the need for sustainability and firm ethical foundations for the future.

The conference organisers reaffirm the need to put people at the centre of digital transformation to ensure sustainable development and that new technologies promote human flourishing.

Academic and other public institutions, especially EASA members, are invited to embrace digital transformation for a sustainable and ethical future, both in terms of national and supranational policies and by encouraging the personal responsibility of each human being.

Middle Europe is a region, which due to its specific geographical, historical, demographic, political, ecological, and cultural challenges, requires special attention to mobilise societal potential and responsibility of national and supranational institutions. Embracing digital transformation is a path to a better future, security, sustainable ageing, protection of cultural heritage and peace for the whole of Europe.

It is proposed that the European institutions and governments of European Union member states provide the necessary organisational, infrastructural, financial, and material support in the form of dedicated institutions, procedures, and budgets, to promote and embrace digital transformation for sustainability, in line with appropriate cultural norms and ethics.

In terms of law and policy, the conference appeals especially to public institutions and holders of public offices that are individually responsible within the limits of their sphere of influence and competence.

Post-covid remediation, in societal, economic, and human rights terms, is to be defined as a priority to society. Digitalisation and new technologies are essential for achieving acceptable post-covid societal, economic, and legal outcomes.

The questions of digital security and artificial intelligence go beyond the technical aspects of digitalisation. They require a holistic, anthropocentric approach.
